Er-Zhi-Wan Osteopenia, Osteoporosis
 

Er-Zhi-Wan Osteopenia, Osteoporosis is a herbal preparation that combines Fructus Ligustri Lucidi  and Herba Ecliptae. It is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to "prevent and treat various kidney diseases for its actions of nourishing the kidney and strengthening tendon and bone."

When I read of this herbal combination and its use in bone building I wanted to be sure that there were scientific studies showing its effectiveness for those with Osteopenia or Osteoporosis. And with  Er-Zhi-Wan the evidence is there

In 2011 researches at the Biomedicine Key Laboratory of Shaanxi Province, Northwest University, China published a paper in the Journal Ethnopharmacology titled: A traditional Chinese herbal preparation, Er-Zhi-Wan, prevent ovariectomy-induced osteoporosis in rats. 

The conclusion of this study stated that this herbal preparation:
"could significantly prevent ovariectomy-induced bone loss, biomechanical reduction, deterioration of trabecular microarchitecture  and the body weight gain without affecting the weight of the uterus,  and increased S-Ca, S-P levels, decreased level of bone turnover  markers and U-Ca, U-P levels in ovariectomized rats.....(and that it
is a )potential alternative medicine for treatment of postmenopausal  osteoporosis."

In other words this herbal combination decreased bone loss, especially of trabecular bone which is so important for preventing fracture.

Availability

The formula is not available on Amazon or any of the other herbal companies I usually suggest so I recommend that you contact a local practitioner of TCM (Traditional Chinese medicine) or one of the herb shops at a Chinatown near your home. (Many big cities have shops that sell tradtional Chinese herbs and/or you may be able to find a practitioner of TCM in your area.

I shall continue to search the Internet for a company I trust that sells this product.  As always you can try Amazon. They do not have it as of this writing 6/2015 but new merchants list on Amazon all the time and they may offer it by the time you are reading this issue so it might be worth doing a search:

As always I recommend that you uncover  ALL the reasons you have suffered bone loss.  (For most people there are multiple causes.)  And until you know and address ALL your own causes of bone loss, it is likely that you will be frustrated in your quest to reverse your bone loss.  Sometimes it is something as simple as not drinking enough water each day. In other cases it could be the result of a medication you are taking (and you can ask your health care provider if there is a different medication you can use that will not erode your bone density.)
